Issues Facing Fort Worth
Common Sense Solutions
4. Toll Roads & Transportation Costs
Toll roads can burden commuters without relieving congestion, especially when options are limited. Many in the community feel tolling is an unfair double-charge after taxes are already spent on road infrastructure.
Stand For
Evaluating toll increases that affect everyday travel.
Opposing policies that add new toll lanes without real alternatives.
Ensuring transportation planning is resident-centered, not revenue-driven.
1. Property Taxes — Bring Relief to Working Families
Fort Worth property taxes have climbed dramatically over the years — putting real strain on homeowners and renters alike. Too many families are being taxed out of the homes they love.
Between 2002 and 2024 Fort Worth's total property taxes grew by an estimated 295%! At this rate families will be priced out of their very own homes. That is not acceptable.
Do you know how your property taxes are calculated? Fort Worth uses what is called a "Mass Appraisal System". This is a method of valuing a large number of properties at once using standardized procedures and statistical models. Basically the value of your home is based on property you don't even own!
Property taxes should be based on the purchase price of your property at the time of purchase for the life of ownership of that property. Your property taxes remain the same as long as you own your home. Regardless of any improvements you make. Regardless of "market value". Regardless of the value of a home two streets over. Regardless of anything but your purchase price. The property tax can be re-evaluated and adjusted when you sell your property and a new individual(s) takes ownership.
Property taxes don't just affect property owners. They affect renters as well. When property taxes rise landlords raise the rent to compensate. When property taxes are lowered renters may not get a rent decrease but they can certainly expect the rate at which their rent will rise will decline significantly.
Our Plan
Support tax relief that protects long-time homeowners.
Explore reforms to how property values are assessed — reducing unfair increases based on market swings.
Increase transparency so residents understand exactly how their tax dollars are used.
📌 Property taxes affect everyone — landlords pass them on to renters, and they make housing less affordable for young families.
2. Public Safety — Support Our Police & Fire Departments
Strong, safe neighborhoods are the heart of Fort Worth. I believe in supporting our police and fire departments so they have the resources, training, and visibility needed to protect our community.
Key Priorities
More visible policing in neighborhoods.
Enhanced community engagement, not defunding.
Continued support for firefighters and emergency services to keep response times low and safety high.
3. Roads & Traffic — Fix What Matters First
From potholes to congestion, our roads need attention. Be it local streets or regional highways, Fort Worth residents deserve infrastructure that keeps them safe and moving.
Solutions
Prioritize maintenance and repairs on aging roads and bridges.
Ensure development pays its fair share for traffic impacts.
Oppose unnecessary expansions that don’t benefit everyday commuters.
🚗 No one should pay double in taxes only to drive on roads clogged or falling apart.
5. Trash, Water, Sewer & Utility Fees — Stop Fee Creep
Utility fees — from trash pickup to stormwater and sewer surcharges — can feel like hidden taxes. Fort Worth’s tiered water rates and additional “service charges” add up quickly for families.
Are you tired of all the "fees" added to every bill you pay? For Fort Worth Water, Sewage, & Trash there are 2 "service charges". A "Garbage Sales Tax" (I'm still not sure what garbage I'm buying that would constitute a sales tax). A utility fee and an environmental fee. All of these "fees" add up to about $300 a year for our household. I'm fee'd up.
What I Will Do
✔ Protect residents from fee hikes whenever possible.
✔ Oppose new fees that unfairly target families.
✔ Support transparent billing — so residents know what they’re paying for.
